Modern Ascot House Interior Design

We love the beauty and strength of concrete, and this new build had concrete in spades!!! Working with a modern brutalist design and the clients brief of “minimilist and clean” we let our hair down and got creative. There is so much to reveal about this project it’s hard to know where to begin!

The majority of furniture pieces were custom designed by Rochele Interiors and manufactured in Brisbane by our vast array of trusted and skilled tradespeople. The custom pieces include the concrete and american oak dining table, american oak and brass coffee table and buffet, bedside tables for three of the bedrooms, a bright blue mesh steel side table, sofas for both of the living rooms, the jaw dropping outdoor concrete table and bench seats and…….drum roll please……..the 2.8 diameter concrete ring light. Admittedly it was a nail biting experience to install this big round bad boy, but it was worth the effort.

Rochele Interiors was also engaged to select the finishes for the bathrooms. We wanted to give the illusion that the concrete top is floating thanks to a mirrored band that sits between it and the oak drawers. We used gorgeous Artedomus tiles for the floors and walls and a black Apaiser bath proudly dominates the space simply by its simplicity.

Rochele Interiors designed the kitchen and selected finishes for the kitchen all the time keeping in mind that these clients like to cook! Marble look porcelain sheets were selected for the working benches both for its beauty and practicality. A large charcoal concrete breakfast bench transitions on from the kitchen island. All the oak cabinetry was stained black and adorned with half moon handles – a repeating theme throughout the home.

Curves were an important element in this design to balance the otherwise hard lines and feel of the concrete. There is subtle use of curves in every room. We curved the edges of all the bedside tables, the edges of the living room rug, the arms and edges of the sofa’s, rounded mirrors in the bathrooms, rounded edges to bench seats and the list goes on. We considered this to be an important detail in achieving a subtle softness to each of the spaces.

The home has large open plan spaces on every floor. The ground floor features a media room and cellar. We wanted the cellar to be a part of this room, but we also wanted it to be its own space. To achieve this we created a platform floor with a black oak timber runway leading to the frameless glass door and wall. LED lighting creates an inviting halo over the oak display shelving.

A muted colour palette creates a sense of calm and quiet throughout the home. Pastel blues, green and pink accent colours are highlighted in the living rooms and gently sit alongside charcoals, whites and greys. There is a beautiful layering of multiple textured fabrics in each of the bedrooms and this presents a comfortable warmness. Original artworks and prints were sourced to be statement features in the bedrooms and living areas and mirror the pastel palette.

We completed the project by furnishing and accessorising the outdoor area next to the pool. A white concrete table and bench seats sits alongside a concrete bench with pizza oven. We discovered an amazing velvet feel outdoor fabric in a pink and green stripe that we used to make a seat cushion. It is a simple but striking feature that adds the cherry on the top to this outdoor entertaining area.

This was project took many months of planning and we are so proud of every detail that went into its making.
